How to pick a book that matches your interest?

Waqar Ahmed | The Productivity Science

Art of selecting a good book.

These days free pdf books have made it easier for us to pick any book and start reading. Perhaps that’s not a correct statement. I have over 200 pdf books stored on different gadgets but barely have I clicked on any of those books.

Reading a book is different from the absorption of information available inside it. Understanding the context of a book is different from agreeing on everything written inside that book. As the legend says, “the true learning comes when you start disagreeing with the book you read.”

Disagreeing is not possible until you pick the book in your hands or click the pdf on your phone. The understanding and absorption of information are all connected. However, this blog is about helping you pick up the book in your hands and start reading it and never feel giving up during the process.

Books are thoughts transmitted by the artist in the format of words. These are my thoughts that you are reading in words format. I’m translating my thoughts into words that eventually combine to form meaningful sentences. Words are simply the thoughts of an artist or author.

There are over 7.7 billion people on this planet, and there are five books available per person. It shows that books have surpassed the number of humans that exist on earth. It altogether proves that there is no scarcity of books in this world. All you need to do is to pick up a book. But the real question is what book you should pick up so that you want to read it until its end?

Simple techniques to choose any book:

  • There are different genres of books everywhere, such as fiction, non-fiction, sci-fi, history, subjective, etc. What is your favorite genre in reading? It is a must question to ask yourself before selecting any book for the next read. I switch among these genres to enjoy different flavors in reading and not get exhausted while only reading the history for an entire year.
  • Once you selected your favorite genre, Google “Top ten New York Times bestselling fiction books.” It is my go-to option every time I hunt for a new book. You need to put a different genre in the sentence, and there you go.
  • Try to select at least five books and start reading their reviews on the Good-read website. You will find people sharing their experiences related to that book, and it would be easier for you to get the kind of the gist of where this book is heading.
  • If Google reviews don’t help, don’t worry. Search for their summaries and many free sources on Internet will provide you simple summary of your searched book. Click at the summary of the book Steal Like an Artist by Austin Kleon and let's get you started with this short and simple book.
  • If you’re not a reading person and especially reading summaries of books makes you bore. Simply, go to YouTube and search for the summary of your selected book. There you will get a simple animated overview of books easily.
  • You have got the best book for your next month’s read but don’t want to spend money on buying a book from the shop? Open the Z-Library and you will get millions of books without any charge. Download the book you have selected and start reading it on the gadget you feel comfortable reading on.

7 lessons I learned from the Al Chemist

Lesson #1:- Humans are tested with calamities and challenges to build a stronger intellectual ground where they can protect their lives and become able to create a better world for future generations.  Those who risked their lives and followed their dreams, they have got the victory. And those who did not risk, and played it safe,  merely stopped where they needed to start. Lesson #2:- Santiago in the search of his legend (true inner self) encountered challenges and a few close calls to death. In the search for treasure, he fearlessly bids on his life by selling his sheep to an old King joins a crystal shop in an unknown part of Africa, and finally embarks on the longest journey towards the Pyramids of Egypt.  His passion to find the unknown treasure based on his audacious belief in omens led him to overpower all the negative forces that could have stopped him from achieving his legend. Steal like an artist by Austin Kleon

Book Cover (Source: Tapan Desai) Summary (informal) Everyone wants to become something in his life.  There’s no single formula to achieve one’s desired destination.  In this rapidly changing information climate, everything has become more competitive and less rewarding for those who do not pay more attention to details.  It is healthy to settle one’s mind to steal ideas productively from those who have experimented with them successfully.  There’s no harm in stealing ideas as there’s nothing as new to the world today given the scale of information exchange around the globe due to the Internet.  Since everything is already available on Google, one must go there and copy from authentic sources.  Make changes in it and sell it to the world. While you are working on the project, keep an eye on wrongs that might discredit the efforts.  Copying from a single person is plagiarism, but doing the same thing from more than one is research.  A good ar...

This is why evidence in conversation matters?

Here are a few big question marks? Why should one believe in storytelling when there’s little space for the question? Is it reliable what you're listening to? What is the truth? What makes a person qualified for any opinion? “The absence of evidence is not the evidence of absence.” – Carl Sagan The human thinking pattern relies on storytelling. As Yuval Noah Harari in his book “Sapiens” calls humans the social beings with close proximity to story beings. Humans communicate with each other through storytelling. It is an easier and more fun method to continue the conversation for a longer time. Sometimes, stories get to a certain level where the fine line between truth and false gets thinner. It becomes a hell sort of challenge to distinguish the words as true or false especially when it’s coming out of a person close to one in relations. Most of us grew up in an environment where many people could express their thoughts without any fear of being questioned. Age was considered ...
